(NOT) EUROPEAN

Europe in crisis. How much have we heard about that. Yet, which Europe is in crisis? A continent, a small subset of states, an idea - or ‘the Europeans?’ Who are they, anyhow? What makes one European? A place of birth? Or values, ideas, religion, culture? Do Turkey and even Azerbaijan share enough with Britain to make it meaningful to think of a political Europe spanning the entire continent? Or are geography and politics simply different things here?

Such are some of the questions we were interested in. With 37 young people we travelled from Berlin to Baku, with stops in Bucharest and Istanbul. We discussed European identity and European boundaries in the group, with experts and the local people we met in the four countries. On this webpage, we will share some of the thoughts we developed and some of the photos we took in the four beautiful cities.
